?‐Poly‐l‐ lysine (?‐PL) is a cationic peptide with a broad‐spectrum antimicrobial activity. This study investigates the use of ?‐PL as natural antimicrobial to inhibit fungal growth and to reduce aflatoxins (AFs) production. Antifungal activity of starch biofilms with different concentrations of ?‐Poly‐l‐ lysine (?‐PL) was determined in solid medium against Aspergillus parasiticus (AFs producer) and Penicillium expansum. Then, biofilms were tested as antimicrobial devices for the preservation of bread loaf inoculated with A. parasiticus CECT 2681 and P. expansum CECT 2278. Shelf life and AFs content were examined. Biofilms with concentrations of ?‐PL less than 1.6 mg/cm2 showed no fungal growth inhibition in solid medium, while the antifungal activity of the films with greater than 1.6 mg/cm2 of ?‐PL was dose dependent. The shelf life of bread inoculated with A. parasiticus was increased by 1 day with the use of films containing 1.6–6.5 mg ?‐PL/cm2, while shelf life of bread tainted with P. expansum was increased by 3 day with 6.5 mg ?‐PL/cm2. AFs production was greatly inhibited by ?‐PL biofilms (93–100%). Thus, ?‐PL biofilms could be potentially used as antimicrobial device during bread storage as a natural alternative to the synthetic preservatives.
Practical applications
?‐Polylysin is a natural substance from microbial metabolism. Polylysine has a function to prevent a microbe from proliferating by ionic adsorption in the microbe. ?‐polylysine has a wide antibacterial spectrum and has an obvious lethal effect on Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, yeast, mold, viruses, etc. It has a good antibacterial effect on the Gram‐negative bacteria E. coli and Salmonellae, which are difficult to control with other natural preservatives. ?‐Polylysine has already been used generally as a food additive in Japan, Korea and other part of world. In the United States, FDA has recognized the polylysine as a GRAS material. Considered the positive results obtained in the study, this compound could be used for the production of antimicrobial biofilms, applied as separator slices in the loaf bread production, to prevent the growth of the mycotoxigenic fungi A. parasiticus and P. expansum, contributing to reduce the use of the synthetically preservatives in bakery industry and also of the negative impact that these compounds could generate on the health of the end users. 相似文献72.

Study objectives were to evaluate the effects of intentionally reduced intestinal barrier function on productivity, metabolism, and inflammatory indices in otherwise healthy dairy cows. Fourteen lactating Holstein cows (parity 2.6 ± 0.3; 117 ± 18 d in milk) were enrolled in 2 experimental periods. Period 1 (5 d) served as the baseline for period 2 (7 d), during which cows received 1 of 2 i.v. treatments twice per day: sterile saline or a gamma-secretase inhibitor (GSI; 1.5 mg/kg of body weight). Gamma-secretase inhibitors reduce intestinal barrier function by inhibiting crypt cell differentiation into absorptive enterocytes. During period 2, control cows receiving sterile saline were pair-fed (PF) to the GSI-treated cows, and all cows were killed at the end of period 2. Administering GSI increased goblet cell area 218, 70, and 28% in jejunum, ileum, and colon, respectively. In the jejunum, GSI-treated cows had increased crypt depth and reduced villus height, villus height-to-crypt depth ratio, cell proliferation, and mucosal surface area. Plasma lipopolysaccharide binding protein increased with time, and tended to be increased 42% in GSI-treated cows relative to PF controls on d 5 to 7. Circulating haptoglobin and serum amyloid A concentrations increased (585- and 4.4-fold, respectively) similarly in both treatments. Administering GSI progressively reduced dry matter intake (66%) and, by design, the pattern and magnitude of decreased nutrient intake was similar in PF controls. A similar progressive decrease (42%) in milk yield occurred in both treatments, but we observed no treatment effects on milk components. Cows treated with GSI tended to have increased plasma insulin (68%) and decreased circulating nonesterified fatty acids (29%) compared with PF cows. For both treatments, plasma glucose decreased with time while β-hydroxybutyrate progressively increased. Liver triglycerides increased 221% from period 1 to sacrifice in both treatments. No differences were detected in liver weight, liver moisture, or body weight change. Intentionally compromising intestinal barrier function caused inflammation, altered metabolism, and markedly reduced feed intake and milk yield. Spectroelectrochemistry (SEC) is a set of techniques with many advantages in the study and characterization of materials. Although SEC has not yet been widely used to study quantum dots (QDs), the information extracted from SEC experiments about these nanostructures is very useful. Most of the works that use SEC to study QDs are high‐quality pieces of research. This review intends to show how to perform SEC in an easy way and what information can be obtained using these techniques. Most of the examples shown in this review are related to semiconductor and carbon QDs. After a brief introduction, some optoelectronic properties of QDs and the main SEC techniques are described. The capabilities of SEC for the study of QDs are illustrated with examples extracted from literature. Finally, the needs of SEC to become a user‐friendly technique and its evolution to become more powerful are commented in the last section of the review. 相似文献

A new optimization method is presented for the design of wide-band harmonic self-oscillating mixers (HSOMs). High conversion gain is obtained through near-bifurcation operation and optimization of the harmonic content of the self-oscillation. Bifurcation analysis- and control-techniques are used in combination with nonlinear optimization techniques based on the use of an auxiliary generator. An 11.25-1.5 GHz third harmonic self-oscillating mixer (3HSOM) with a 2.5 dB down-conversion gain over a 1.2 GHz bandwidth has been designed. The goal of this paper is to describe a linearizing feedback adaptive control structure which leads to a high quality regulation of the output error in the presence of uncertainties and external disturbances. The controller consists of three elements: a nominal input–output linearizing compensator, a state observer and an uncertainty estimator, which provides the adaptive part of the control structure. In this way, the feedback controller, based on the disturbance observer, compensates for external disturbances and plant uncertainties. The present study is part of a project which aimed to examine the influence of intramuscular fat (IMF) content on the sensory attributes and consumer acceptability of pork. Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of IMF level on the composition of the lipid fraction and on the sensory qualities of muscle longissimus lumborum (LL). Each of these experiments used 32 castrated male pigs selected after slaughter either from 125 Duroc×Landrace (Experiment 1) or 102 Tia Meslan×Landrace (Experiment 2) crossbred animals, and showing large variability in LL IMF content: from <1.5 to >3.5% in Experiment 1 and from 1.25 to 3.25% in Experiment 2. Results from lipid analyses indicate that in both experiments, an increase in IMF content is almost entirely reflected by an increase in the triglycerides content of the muscle. In Experiment 2, higher IMF content was associated with higher free fatty acids. Marbling score was significantly affected by IMF level in Experiment 1 but not in Experiment 2. In Experiment 1, a trend towards a favourable effect of high IMF levels on flavour (p=0.09) and tenderness (p=0.055) was observed. In experiment 2, increased IMF level was associated with significantly higher juiciness and flavour scores. The results from the present study indicate that the variability in IMF level of LL muscle was almost entirely due to the variability in triglyceride contents. Favourable effects of increased IMF levels on the sensory attributes of pork were demonstrated in both experiments using different types of animals, but the nature and the magnitude of these effects depended on the experiment considered. 相似文献

In this paper, we solve the Falkner–Skan equation with heat transfer through an expansion in Fourier series, results are improved by incorporating an asymptotic analysis for the Fourier series coefficients. The results show that the classical expansion in Fourier series together with the incorporation of an asymptotic analysis for coefficients of the series delivers a solution with very good accuracy and rapid convergence when it is compared with other methods of solution found in the literature as finite difference and shooting method. 相似文献

Approximately 25% of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients develop peritoneal metastasis, a condition associated with a bleak prognosis. The CRC peritoneal dissemination cascade involves the shedding of cancer cells from the primary tumor, their transport through the peritoneal cavity, their adhesion to the peritoneal mesothelial cells (PMCs) that line all peritoneal organs, and invasion of cancer cells through this mesothelial cell barrier and underlying stroma to establish new metastatic foci. Exosomes produced by cancer cells have been shown to influence many processes related to cancer progression and metastasis. In epithelial ovarian cancer these extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been shown to favor different steps of the peritoneal dissemination cascade by changing the functional phenotype of cancer cells and PMCs. Little is currently known, however, about the roles played by exosomes in the pathogenesis and peritoneal metastasis cascade of CRC and especially about the molecules that mediate their interaction and uptake by target PMCs and tumor cells. We isolated exosomes by size−exclusion chromatography from CRC cells and performed cell-adhesion assays to immobilized exosomes in the presence of blocking antibodies against surface proteins and measured the uptake of fluorescently-labelled exosomes. We report here that the interaction between integrin α5β1 on CRC cells (and PMCs) and its ligand ADAM17 on exosomes mediated the binding and uptake of CRC-derived exosomes. The electrochemical performance of a Li-ion battery made from nanometric, highly crystalline LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 as positive electrode and mesoporous carbon microbeads (MCMBs) as negative electrode was assessed. The best performance was obtained by using a slight excess of spinel (a cathode/anode mole ratio of 1.3) and lithium bis-oxalate borate (LiBOB) instead of LiPF6 as an electrolyte salt. Higher spinel contents caused the formation of metallic Li in the carbon and the rapid degradation of battery performance as a result. The calculated output energy was 322 Wh kg−1 which is higher than the value reported for the LiMn2O4/C cell (250 Wh kg−1). 相似文献
